Korea – Global Student Leadership Conference by APNYI Admin
Nazarene student leaders from 22 countries meet for global conference at KNU
Seoul, South Korea
Delegates convened at Korea Nazarene University (KNU) in Seoul, South Korea from June 6 to14 for a Cross Culture Student Leader Conference (CCSLC). Forty-six delegates from 30 Nazarene institutions and 22 different countries met for cultural, spiritual, and educational exchange.
Leadership workshops were presented by Verne Ward of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office, Gary Hartke of General Nazarene Youth International, Dave Church of General Motors/Daewoo (Korea), Bill Patch, former KNU president, and Abraham Im, current KNU president.
The purpose of the conference was two-fold: to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Korean Revival (1907) and to celebrate the founding of the International Church of the Nazarene (1908). Students experienced the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Korean culture, a first-time adventure for many.
Additionally, working side-by-side on a compassionate ministries construction project in the community proved to be one of the many highlights of the conference.
The CCSLC experience drew rave reviews from its participants:
“We are going back different from the way we came†– Delegate representing Zimbabwe
“I know this is a beginning of another part of me†– Delegate representing Uganda
“What I’ve learned through you will always stay with me, shaping my service as a leader†– Delegate representing England
“We really need such conferences to understand our church more around the worldâ€â€” Delegate representing the Republic of South Africa
Representatives from South America and Central America were provided Spanish translation as the conference was presented in English. Bi-lingual KNU staff and students volunteered much of their time to host the international students and provide this cultural/educational experience for Nazarene sister-institutions.
The international exchange was a never-to-be-forgotten experience for all involved.

I’be been a part of this conference in Korea. I am very gald to be with other Nazarene leaders (youth) and experienced God’s provision and guidance throughout our stay there for almost 10 days. We learned so much from lectures on how to be equipped and effective in our leadership. The friendship that we built then was really amazing and will always be cherished here in our hearts.CCSLS…CCSLC…CCSLC…
